Sunday April 25, 2010 ~ Marriott Schaumburg Hotel

Several of the artists met Saturday night at the Stonewood Ale House for a nice

dinner and to share a few laughs before Sunday's Teddy Bear Show.
"It's a happy time being together and relaxing!" said George Weber.

Birthday surprise for Mark McKay. He and his wife Susan flew in from Toronto, Canada for the teddy bear show. "We haven't missed a show in years!"

Happy Birthday Mark!

Before the show opened . . .

Each participating artist is asked to submit bear photos for consideration for the collector's invitation postcard. The Spring Schaumburg Postcard winner is Cathy Knapp of Tenderheart Teddies. Valerie Rogers, the show's promoter awarded Cathy Winner's Certificate and offered congratulations for the lovely bear photo that was used. The postcard is shown above.

One of the best parts about going to a teddy bear show is being with friendly artists and learning more about bear collecting

Collectors ponder over the bears looking for the one that catches their attention or that 'speaks' to them!

Special guest, Waldorf entertained the collectors. See the video link below.

Teddy Bear Appraisals by Ken Yenke

Joan D. and her mother Ruth D. from Elk Grove, IL brought Ken the little bear that was given to her as a child while living in Germany.

During the show collectors brought bears to Ken Yenke, who is a teddy bear appraiser, collector, author and curator of the Chelsea Toy and Bear Museum in Michigan. Some of the bears are shown here.

"When a collector brings a bear to me for appraisal, its value increases if there is an old photo of the bear held by the owner at a very early age. By doing this, even over the years with other family members too, shows the provenance and history of the bear."

See Ken's "Teddy Snow Cap" appraisal on YouTube.

Joe K. from Schaumburg, IL brought two old friends to the show. One is a Gund Bear the other is a Bialosky wearing the red vest.

A well loved 1907 Ideal Bear has been in the family since before Eva M. from was born! Even though he had some damage to a paw, he remains a 'priceless' family treasure!

Keith B. from Lakeville, IL brought a 1940's Steiff bear pull-toy that belonged to his grandmother.
Good Bears of the World

Waldorf, our special guest, danced around the showroom and gave hugs to nearly everyone. He surprises Beth Savino from The Toy Store and Cindy McGuire from China Cupboard Bears.

Even Valerie and Terry Stong from GBW got a great bear hug too!

Betty Frank of BJ's Bears and Ken Yenke are both supporters of GBW.

Tyler Crain of Teds 'n Such, Sandy Good and Mike Cousino are all supporters and den members of GBW

Sandy Humanski, Marji Bebiak and Sandy Good all are collectors and supporters of GBW!

Good Bears of the World is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving teddy bears to those in need of a hug.

Your support is always welcomed.

Near the close of the show, Valerie Rogers asked Terry Stong to draw names of the artists and they each took home
one of the Spring flower pots from the Gallery table or a surprise gift.
"Planting the Spring flower bulbs will bring fond memories of the teddy bear show!" said Terry.
